Keeping the Focus...

I have missed you!! The good news is - people are no longer dropping like flies! Also good news - we are saving up for a computer and should be enjoying one around Christmas! No more public library computer lab with very germy sick people...

I am now teaching in an after-school piano program at a private school in town. Love the students, love the hours - it has been a great fall. I usually teach 6 to 8 lessons in a row each day, Monday through Friday...

Last week, I noticed that my first student kept looking at the front of my shirt during the lesson. I would lean over to point out something in the music and the student would look directly at my chest. I kept thinking...how odd? Is there something going on on the front of my shirt today? I looked and there were no spills from lunch, no weird creasing, no gapping...

Then the next student came in...and the same thing happened! After the fourth student in a row kept staring at my chest, I realized that either something weird was in the water or my long dangly necklace with big blue stones on it was absolutely riveting and completely distracting to the students.

This made me realize how often I get distracted by the shiny sparkly things in life...a new hobby (I'm selling cute monogrammed bags - did you see the pictures on the side bar???), our jobs, shopping, friendships, huge Christmas programs that are started in August and entail building a giant "tree" so that 100 people can stand and look like human ornaments (you need to see it to believe it)...you know what I'm saying. We are all guilty of looking around and finding shiny sparkly things to distract us from the One who is the Gift of Life.

So this holiday season, as the shopping lists get longer, the food gets even more delicious, and the guests come and go...let's keep our eyes on the finish line and on the Author and perfector of our faith.

Enjoy this beautiful Fall Season!
