Rock that Boat!

I was reading this week about Jesus calming the storm in Matthew 8:23-27.

23Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him.

Have you ever thought about that verse before? Jesus was all-knowing. He knew that the storm was going to come, but he led those disciples right out onto the lake anyway. Right into their biggest fear.

24Without warning, a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. 25The disciples went and woke him, saying, "Lord, save us! We're going to drown!"

Haven't we all felt the waves sweeping over us in life? Sometimes they're big waves - a family illness or death, job changes, moving - and sometimes those little waves get to us, too. It is at those times that we cry out over and over to Jesus and wonder where He is. But here comes the amazing part....

26He replied, "You of little faith, why are you so afraid?" Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.

God is in control. When we feel the waves overcoming us, we just have to grasp onto the fact that God is in control of it all. He may lead us into uncharted - and let's face it, a little frightening - territory at times. But just as the disciples fully experienced the wonder and awe of Jesus saving them from their greatest fears, we too can reach the other side of those storms and see God's amazing sovereignty and grace pouring down on us.

May God's grace and peace rain down on you this week....
