The Dichotomy of 2

I forgot to pray at breakfast this morning.

My heart just filled to overflowing when Ethan got my attention, then clasped his hands and bowed his head as if to say, "Hey Mom, you forgot something!" Of course I spent the next hour in La-La Land SOOO thrilled that out of all the things he has learned in 2 months, praying is at the top of the list. Thank you, Jesus.

However, when I got out of the shower a little later, he met me at the bathroom door with a sad, contrite look.

Hmmmmmm.

La-La Land averted.

So I asked the inevitable question, "Did something happen?"

To which he replied with a little shrug....and then he promptly turned around and put himself in time out.

Uh oh.

I told him that he was Mama's sweet baby and surely, he didn't need to put himself in time out. He responded with a miserable, "No, no," and waved me away.

After he had given himself what he deemed a sufficient time out, he turned around and everything became a bit more clear.....or in this case, shiny........

Apparently, the tube of lip balm on my nightstand had just been TOO tempting to resist, and you know, why should you just use it on your lips when your entire face could feel that delightful greasy feeling. Here's the proof:

It occurred to me after a little reflection, that we are all basically 2 years old. We start the day praising God for a fresh start and just a little while later we careen dangerously into the world of temptation.....and then beg for forgiveness when we can't hide the greasy evidence. Bless our hearts. Thank God He has such a compassionate heart......

What a cute story...and little boy. How many children do we know who would put themselves in time out? How many adults?
